Megan Thee Stallion revealed that when she was a teenager she hid from her mother her ambition to become a rapper.
The 26-year-old American explained that she wanted to be "perfect" during her adolescence for her mother, who was also a rapper and died of cancer in 2019.
"My mother was a rapper. "She did not know I wanted to be a rapper, but I literally watched her all day," Megan Thee Stallion told Tyra Banks on the cover of Sports Illustrated's new 2021 Swimsuit.
"I used to say, 'This lady is everything.' I did not want to tell her that I could rap until I was eighteen. "I wanted to be perfect for her," she admitted
Megan Thee Stallion, who grew up in Houston, Texas, realized she had to reveal to her mother her ambition to become a rapper when she was about 20 years old.
"I was thinking, 'Okay, I've probably kept this secret for a long time.' I started going to the studio alone. I did not want my mother to stop me. "I did not want to say, 'You are not serious about this,'" he explained.
The rapper also described the conversation she had with her mother: "I told her: 'Okay, mom. Do not put my voices, but I am to find, okay? ”. So I started to go out of my way and swear. "
Megan Thee Stallion became the first rapper in the history of "Sports Illustrated" to be featured on the cover of the famous "Swimsuit" issue.
"I want to thank all the strong women in my life who inspired me to love my body and live the life of a hot girl," she wrote on social media, adding: "It means everything to me to be on this cover."
