Taylor Swift Takes ‘Patient Zero’ to No. 1 Worldwide and Breaks More Billboard Records

Taylor Swift has turned “Patient Zero” into the biggest song in the world, debuting at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts. The huge opening ties BTS’ all-time Global 200 record, pushes Swift past Drake in Top 10 history and gives “The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore” an extraordinary new wave of worldwide chart success.

Taylor Swift has taken “Patient Zero” straight to the top of the world, opening at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. The debut gives her another major international milestone while pushing her past Drake in one all-time ranking and tying BTS for the most No. 1 hits in Global 200 history.

The new single becomes Taylor Swift’s eighth leader on the Billboard Global 200, matching the record BTS have held since the chart launched in September 2020. At the same time, Taylor Swift now counts 47 songs that have reached the Global 200 Top 10, moving ahead of Drake, who has 45.

“Patient Zero” also debuts at No. 1 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S., becoming her fifth chart-topper on that ranking. That moves Taylor Swift ahead of Bad Bunny and Ariana Grande among solo artists with the most leaders there, while BTS remain ahead overall with eight No. 1s.

The song appears on “The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore,” the deluxe edition of Taylor Swift’s album “The Life Of A Showgirl,” released on September 25. The expanded version brought a fresh wave of attention to the project and helped send the album back to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, where it has now spent 13 total weeks at the top.

The track also opened at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Taylor Swift’s 16th career leader on the chart. That gives the release a huge opening week, with the song sitting at the top in the United States and across Billboard’s two main global song rankings at the same time.

According to Luminate data for the tracking period from September 25 through October 1, “Patient Zero” generated 70.7 million official streams and 80,000 digital sales worldwide. Outside the United States, it collected 37.3 million streams and 15,000 digital sales, helping it take No. 1 on Global Excl. U.S. as well.

The official music video gave the song another major pop-culture moment during the same week. Directed by Taylor Swift herself, the visual stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell alongside her and premiered during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, keeping the track at the center of the conversation throughout the tracking period.

Taylor Swift’s chart takeover was not limited to one song. All four new tracks from “The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore” landed high on the Billboard Global 200, giving the deluxe edition an unusually strong footprint across the ranking.

“Cleveland!” debuted at No. 2 with 37.3 million global streams, while “Babylon” entered at No. 3 with 36.3 million. “Pink Clouding” arrived at No. 5 with 36 million streams, giving Taylor Swift four new songs inside the Global 200 Top 5 at once.

Another track from the original edition also returned to the upper part of the chart. “The Fate of Ophelia,” which previously spent seven weeks at No. 1, jumped from No. 14 to No. 8 after earning 29.8 million streams, an increase of 27% from the previous week.

That means Taylor Swift placed five songs inside the Global 200 Top 10 in the same frame, with four of them coming from the deluxe edition’s new material. It is the kind of chart concentration that only a small number of artists can produce during a major release week.

The picture was nearly as strong on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Taylor Swift extended her own record for the most Top 10 hits on that chart to 34, putting more distance between herself and Bad Bunny, who stands at 24.

On that ranking, “Cleveland!” debuted at No. 6, “Pink Clouding” entered at No. 7 and “Babylon” opened at No. 8. “The Fate of Ophelia” also returned to the Top 10, climbing from No. 13 to No. 10.

The sudden arrival of Taylor Swift’s new songs changed the balance at the top of both global charts. Karol G, Judeline and rusowsky’s “BbY WOW,” which had spent four weeks at No. 1 on both rankings, fell to No. 3 on the Global 200 and No. 2 on Global Excl. U.S.

Elsewhere on Global Excl. U.S., Dua Lipa’s “Training Season” slipped to No. 3 after previously reaching No. 2. ADÉLA held two places inside the Top 5, with “Nicole Kidman” rising to a new peak of No. 4 and “Ain’t in LA” moving down to No. 5.

The scale of Taylor Swift’s week becomes even clearer when looking at how the Billboard global charts are built. The Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. rankings use streaming and sales activity from more than 200 territories around the world.

The Global 200 combines U.S. activity with international data, while Global Excl. U.S. removes American activity entirely. Both rankings use a weighted formula based on official streams from subscription and ad-supported audio and video platforms, along with digital song sales from recognized retailers. Direct-to-consumer sales through an artist’s own website are not included.

For “Patient Zero,” the numbers show strength across both systems. The song is not simply a U.S. hit that also appears on a worldwide list. It is No. 1 even when American activity is removed from the equation, giving Taylor Swift another clear measure of her reach outside her home market.

That matters because Taylor Swift has already spent years dominating the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200. The latest results show that the same kind of commercial power now extends across the global rankings in a way that is rewriting those charts as well.

Her eighth Global 200 No. 1 places her level with BTS at the top of the chart’s history, while her 47 Global 200 Top 10 entries put her ahead of Drake. On Global Excl. U.S., five No. 1s now make Taylor Swift the solo artist with the most leaders, even as BTS remain ahead among all acts.

The timing also adds to the impact of “The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore.” Deluxe editions often extend the life of an album, but this release has done much more than simply bring the project back into view. It has generated a brand-new No. 1 single and filled large sections of the global Top 10.

The four new songs did not arrive quietly around an existing album. They immediately became major chart records of their own, while also sending attention back toward material from the original version. “Patient Zero” has emerged as the clear center of that second wave.

Its No. 1 debut on the Hot 100, Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. gives Taylor Swift a clean sweep across three of Billboard’s most visible song charts. At the same time, the rest of “The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore” is filling the upper reaches of the global rankings, showing that the response goes well beyond one breakout track.

With “Patient Zero” now sitting at No. 1 around the world, Taylor Swift’s latest era has gained another major peak. She has tied BTS for the most Global 200 No. 1s, passed Drake for the most Global 200 Top 10 hits and moved ahead of every other solo artist in Global Excl. U.S. No. 1s, while the deluxe album continues to push multiple tracks into Billboard’s highest international positions.
